News Oddities

News Oddities

We love news oddities. The age of Information and Communications technology develops a highly-scientific and highly-inquisitive global culture that prioritizes extensive articulation of facts and information, and comprehensive investigation of knowledge production. Thus, news that talk about oddities is a breathe of fresh air, telling us that in spite of all the knowledge the world knows, there are things that nature simply made in a way they are not supposed to be, things that remind us of a million of mysteries that we have yet to fathom, in case they are fathomable at all.

Hence it has become a habit of newspaper houses, radio shows, and TV networks to always include news on oddities of all sorts, from documentaries that showcase numerous unbelievable physical illness, deformation, feats, and other medical oddities, to animal reports featuring lovely animals strangely born with missing or excessive organs, and seemingly act in a way that humans do. The global and phenomenal popularity of the show, "Believe it or Not," and its different versions, franchises, and formats across different TV networks in almost all nations is strong a testament of our delight, if not fetish for things that are outrageously queer, bizarre, extraordinary, and abnormal. It is just interesting to note how we naturally love seeing things that defy the norms. Perhaps it just mirrors what we want to achieve as people. In ways more than one, there are times when we subvert from the norm, and, in our subversion, we want to be seen and noticed with acceptance and delight, and not rejection and disgust.
