Plastic Oddities

Plastic Oddities

One of the narrower categorizations of medical oddities are oddities related to unsuccessful medical procedures, specifically in plastic surgery. In a world where popular culture keeps on stressing out the power deposited in beauty, gorgeousness and glamour, and where medical technology keeps on churning out new products and treatments promising to transform ordinary looks into Hollywood-like figures, the increasing number of people undergoing various kinds of plastic surgery is not surprising.

Plastic oddities, hence, can mean two things. An unsuccessful procedure that created an unusual effect, or a horribly ugly effect produced by a successful procedure. Even though prices entailed in undergoing plastic surgery are tremendously becoming cheaper over the years, the prices remain relatively expensive, one reason which drives people to inexperienced, if not illegal, medical practitioners offering cheap plastic surgery rates.

Because each face is unique, the oddity (or ugliness) that unsuccessful plastic surgery creates is of limitless descriptions. There is a case wherein the patient's nose was rendered hideously asymmetric, in which the skin kept on peeling off every now and then, and the nostrils were completely distorted. There are also cases when jaw reshaping gave out uneven cartoon-like if not monstrous faces. In cases of face lifting, there are not a few patients whose face ended up looking very stretched and artificial. Really, the freakishness that failed plastic surgery brings are beyond our imagination of the ugly.

Plastic oddities are brought by a generation of people conditioned by mass media and society to strongly prioritize enhancing physical beauty. Ironically, the desire to be odd, to stand out, to be more beautiful than others, is what pressures people to extensively change their physical looks, changes which sometimes unfortunately result to being odd negatively, being in the dark far end side of the gorgeous.
